West Country Firewood    01823 490 351

We are a family run company, based in North Curry, Somerset.  Our aim is to supply local people with a quality local product while providing ourselves with local employment.

All of our timber is sourced locally from FSC certified woodland, that is from responsibly managed woodlands to the highest environmental, social and economic standards.

The environmental benefits of firewood

Wood is a clean fuel.
Wood releases comparably low amounts of CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuels, produces little smoke when seasoned, and does not leave any hazardous waste.

Woodfuel is a carbon-neutral alternative to fossil fuels.
Carbon released when burning is already offset by the CO2 absorbed by the growing trees. This is continued again by the next woodland crop.

Timber is a sustainable source of energy.
Woodland is a naturally regenerating crop providing an unlimited source of renewable energy, which can help meet our country’s energy targets.

Short distance of fuel transport.
Logs are a ‘local fuel’ usually grown in nearby woodlands, thus reducing the need for long haulage journeys (compared to thousands of miles by oil or gas). Even coal is mostly imported into the UK now.

Wood fuel promotes biodiversity and ecosystems.
The use of land for woodland creates a much more diverse natural environment for wildlife, compared to grassland or single-crop arable farming.

Economic returns from woodland encourage woodland management.
If landowners can be persuaded to see woodland as an economically viable crop, it can lead to more planting of woodlands and better management.

All waste products can be recycled.
The wood ash produced is a great natural fertiliser for your garden.

Wood fuel supports local rural jobs.
A market for local products such as firewood logs provides traditional jobs within local communities.
